It was Halloween time, and I wanted to decorate my door. π A door needs a theme, though, and I didn’t have one. So I did what any reasonable witch would do. I put on Hocus Pocus. π§ββοΈ
About five minutes in, I said, “That’s it.”
That’s how my Hocus Pocus door decoration was born. I pictured “I Smell Children” at the top and a little witch at the bottom, peeking up at a bubbling cauldron. My first plan was to use the whole Hocus Pocus door cover, but I wanted her to pop off the door. So I made her 3-D, with a real witch hat, a purple tutu, and faux hair.

Most of it came from Dollar Tree, Dollar General, and Aldi’s seasonal aisle. Here’s exactly what I used and how I brought it to life. π§Ή

π§ββοΈ Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Cover the door. Cut the Halloween table cover to fit your door and tape it in place. This is your spooky backdrop.
Step 2: Place and cut the Hocus Pocus sign. Hold the Hocus Pocus door cover up to your door to see where it looks best. Cut it right under the words “I Smell Children,” then hang the top portion across the top of your door.
Step 3: Place your little witch. π§ββοΈNow that you know where the sign ends, build your 3-D witch below it. Give her a real witch hat, faux hair, and a purple tutu, then attach the wooden witch legs at the bottom. For her arms, cut two sleeves out of the black construction paper, about the length of a childβs arm. You can choose any color construction paper for the hands. Make sure she isn’t too high or too low, since you need room for the cauldron above her. Cut small circles from pink and orange construction paper and glue them over the staples.
I used a stapler so sheβd stay put, but tape works too, depending on your door. Got staples showing? Cut little circles out of pink and orange construction paper and glue them over the staples. They donβt need to be even. They turn into polka dots on her sleeves. Sheβs a little girl and a witch, so black sleeves with polka dots felt just right. Add as many dots or designs as you like.
Step 4: Make the bubbling brew. Cut the black cauldron in half so the flat side sits against the door. First, hot-glue the green ornament balls and plastic eyeballs together, then wrap the light green mesh around them to strengthen it. Set it on top of the cauldron so it looks like your brew is boiling over, and tuck in a few spiders. Tip: don’t go overboard on ornaments. Keep it light so it doesn’t pull the table cover down.
Step 5: Make the bubbling cauldron. Cut the black cauldron in half so the flat side sits against the door. First, hot-glue the green ornament balls to the plastic eyeballs. The ornaments are your bubbles. Then wrap the light green mesh around them to strengthen them. Set it on top of the cauldron so it looks like your brew is bubbling over, and tuck in a few spiders. Tip: donβt go overboard on ornaments. Keep it light so it doesnβt pull the table cover down.
Step 6: Light it up. Drape the orange spiderweb lights over the cauldron and let them hang down. Leave a little gap so the eyeballs peek through. π
Step 7: Hand her a broom. π§ΉProp the mini cinnamon witch broom beside her. Bonus: your doorway will smell like fall.
Step 8: Check everything. Give everything a gentle tug before the judges walk by. No witch wants to fall off her own door.

I entered my door in a Halloween door competition. I’ll let you know if I won. π
The best part? You don’t need a spell book to make your own. Grab a few dollar store finds, put on Hocus Pocus for inspiration, and let your door do the talking. π§Ή
